Cake Poppin’!

IMG_0373

Hi everyone!

Since we just had Valentine’s Day, I thought I would cook up a tasty treat for the holiday.  They are called “Cake Pops” and seem to be becoming a more popular food trend.  They are pretty easy to make and cheap as well!

Things you will need:

Cake mix

Icing

Lollipop Sticks

Melting Candy

First, you have to bake a cake.  It can be homemade or packaged.  You can find these boxes at your local grocery store and you can pick whatever kind you’d like (i.e. chocolate, vanilla or red velet).  After you bake the cake, make sure that it cools fully because you dont want the icing to melt on the cake itself.

When the cake is cool, you crumple it up and add 1/2 to 3/4 of icing.  It can be any kind of icing you want  Then you mix the cake and the icing together until it’s all mixed.  After that, you take about a spoonful of cake and roll it into a ball.  You do this with all of the cake and icing mixture.  It is a good idea to let the cake balls sit in the fridge overnight so they can set.  If you don’t have time to do it overnight, then a few hours will work too.

Once the cake balls have set, you gather your lollipop sticks and melt the melting candy.  You put one end of the stick in the melted candy and insert into the middle of the cake pop.  Then let the melting candy cool.  This melting candy acts as glue between the stick and the cake.  When all of the cake pops are cool.  You take the pops by the stick and dip full cake pop into the melting candy then letting the excess drip off.  Finally, you let all the cake pops dry then enjoy this delicious, easy treat!
